In this article, you will learn how to view and manage messages in the Inbox tool.
For the purposes of course facilitation and delivery, the messaging system in the Astria LMS makes it easy to manage conversations by course, by section, by group or by student without having to know their email address or the distribution list.
The toolbar includes global message options. To load conversations, filter your conversations messages by course [1] and type [2]. Filtering by type lets you filter messages by Inbox conversations, Unread, Starred, Sent, Archived, and Submission Comments. You can compose a message at any time using the compose icon [3].
You can also search for conversations by user in the Search by user field [4].
Once you have selected a conversation, you can use the other options in the toolbar:
Reply to a conversation
Reply-all to a conversation
Archive a conversation
Delete a conversation
Forward, mark a conversation as read or unread, and star conversations
Conversations for your selected course and Inbox filter appear in the left Conversations panel.
The Conversation Inbox is organized chronologically from newest to oldest with the newest Conversations appearing on top [1] and the older Conversations at the bottom.
You can manually mark a conversation as read or unread by hovering over the conversation and toggling the circle to the left of the conversation [2]. To star a conversation, hover over the conversation and toggle the star to the left of the conversation [3].When you select a conversation [1], all messages in the conversations thread appear in the right Conversations panel [2].
Within each conversation, you can reply, reply-all, forward, or delete the entire conversation thread [1]. You can also hover over an individual message and use the same commands within the individual message [2].
Still not sure why you should use the Inbox tool? Here are some other reasons to consider using the Inbox for course-related correspondence:
You can send messages to an entire course, just a section, or an individual student without having to know their email addresses.
When a student emails you, you'll know exactly which course he/she is enrolled in. No more replying "Who is this?" or "Which course are you emailing me about?"
Conversations are threaded and kept organized by subject line.
You can search for all messages sent by a single student.
You can see the profile pictures of students (assuming they have added one) when reading student messages.
Your messages can include text, attachments, audio/video recordings, and links.
You can toggle the Conversations view to see, among other things, the submission comment interactions between you and a specific student.
All messages sent via the Gradebook will be archived in your Inbox.
You can review messages you have sent to help track your correspondence regarding course questions and message threads with students, observers, and TAs
